カルガモの親子が4月18日誕生しました。そこで連休の初日に早速撮影に行ってきました。ここは、おとめ山公園よりも規模は小さめですが、非常にきれいな日本庭園で、水面すれすれで撮影ができる足場があり、カルガモ撮影にはもってこいの公園でしょう。
また水面にもゴミがほとんど無く、きれいな池でよい写真が撮れます。また雛のいないペアのカルガモがいるので、たまに池から飛んで行ったり、また池に戻ってきたりして、カルガモの飛翔も写真に収めることができます。2回訪問しましたが、2回とも5時の閉園前にカルガモが飛び立つことが多いように思います。

目白庭園までの行き方

9匹のうち8匹になってしまったカルガモの雛は、どの雛も元気で、最近は素潜りや、陸にあがって草をついばむようになりました。高い崖からも、親について行こうと戸惑いながら果敢に飛び込み、ちっちゃな役に立たない羽をばたつかせて転げ落ちる様子が何とも愛らしいです。

江戸時代、現在のおとめ山公園一帯をおとめ山と呼んでいたようです。将軍家の狩猟地で、立ち入り禁止の意味の御留山から起こった名と言われています。
明治以降は、おとめ山を東西に分けて東側を近衛家、西側を相馬家が所有していました。相馬家は林泉園と称して庭園として利用、庭内は池泉を中心にした回遊式で、大正３年、長岡半平が築造し、現在の一部が公園に残っています。
その後、分譲され、戦後は大蔵省が所有していたが、荒れ果てていたものを地元の文化人らが大蔵省に陳情して、公園として整備されることになり、昭和４４年に新宿区立おとめ山公園として開園しました。
この年はちょうど私の誕生年であります。

In the Edo Era this area was called Otome-Yama. It was a hunting ground exclusivewly for the Tokugawa shogunate, and ordinary people were not allowed to enter the area(Otome means "Keep out! and Yama means a hilly mountain).
After the Meiji Period, Otome-Yama was divided into the East Side and the West Side, and the East Side was possessed by the Konoe family and the West Side by the Soma family. The Somas used the West Side as a garden and named it "Rinsen-En". The central part of this landscape garden in the go-round style has a pond with a fountain. The garden was made by Hanpei Nagaoka in 1914 and a part of the garden still remains,as it was then, today.
After that, the West Side was sold in lots. After World War Ⅱ, the West Side came into the possession of the Ministry of Finance and was left as a desolate place.
Men of culture living in the vicinity sent a petition to the Ministry of Finance. Thanks to their efforts, it was dedicated to develop this area as a park was opened in 1969 as Otome-Yama Park of Shinjuku-ku.
That year is my birth year.

5/6撮影。日本や中国、朝鮮半島の山中に生える高さ10mぐらいの落葉高木で、初夏のころ満開になる白い花を白雲に見立てて名前がついたようです。
連休の最後の日に、カルガモの親子にしか注目がされていない公園に、見上げるとこのような美しい可憐な花が咲いているんですね。小さい頃よく遊んだ公園でしたがまったく気づきませんでした。

May 6th. "Hakuunn" is meaning white cloud, and "Boku" is meaning tree. This tree is a deciduous tree which is about 10m high and has white small flowers like a sea of white clouds early in summer.

この頃はまだ親の厳重な監視のもとで泳いでいました。
Eleven spot-billed duck babies were born before Golden-week holyday in Otomeyama-Park. But several ones of them were killed by cats and crows, so only 8 babies were remained. Thanks to volunteers’ efforts there are nets around the pond keeping away from cats, and neighbors near this park repulsed crows if they see them.
This day they were swimming under mother’s constant surveillance.

約２週間経つと体も一回り大きくなってきます。
2 weeks later their bodies were one size larger.

親の監視を盗んで１人で遊ぶようになって統制がつかなくなってきました。And they play behind the mother’s back.

未知との遭遇 Close Encounters of the Third Kind

でもまだまだ羽は全然生えてなくこんな感じです。
But they have only an apology for a wing like this.

おとめ山公園のある新宿区下落合近辺は狸の出没することで有名でもあります。大都会のオアシスである下落合のわずかな緑の中にひっそりと暮らしているタヌキを守るため、下落合みどりトラスト運動も起きています。
私も、寄付を行って一員でもあります。下落合みどりトラスト基金
2008年5月25日の閉園間際の誰もいない薄暗い公園を、カワセミやシロザギが来ないかなと歩いていたときに偶然に出会いました。
公園の管理人の方もタヌキが出没したことに驚いていたようです。
あわててカメラを構えて、ややピンボケとなってしまいましたが、自宅から50mぐらいの所なので定期的に今後も訪れようかと思います。
そのほか、野鳥としては、シジュウカラ、ムクドリ、オナガ、コゲラ、メジロ、ウグイス、ヒヨドリ、セグロセキセイ、オオルリ、ヤマガラ、カワセミ、チュウサギ、カルガモがこの公園で観察することができるようです。
現在、この公園を取り巻く位置に公務員住宅が存在し、今後取り壊し、新宿区が公園を拡張する計画があるようです。
そうなるとかなり都内でも大きな公園が誕生することになります。
Surrounding of this park is well known as raccoon dogs in the middle of Tokyo. Thanks to volunteers’ efforts trust foundation for preservation of wildlife is active in these days.
I am one of members of this foundation.
In this day I wondered around this park seeking for a common Indian kingfisher or an egret, I happened to ran into a raccoon dog just before close-time.
In this park we can watch a Japanese great tit, a (gray) starling, an azure-winged magpie, a Japanese pygmy woodpecker, a (Japanese) white-eye, a bush warbler, a bulbul, a Japanese wagtail, a blue-and-white flycatcher, a varied tit, a common Indian kingfisher, an egret, and a spot-billed duck.
Around this park there are many government employee apartment buildings now, but in the future these areas are planning to be merged to one big Otomeyama-Park.
If that plan is succeeded, one of the biggest parks will be born in the middle of Shinjuku-Ward.

だいぶ大人の羽が生え揃いました。
以前は自分よりはるかに大きかった鯉も、いたずらができるくらいに体が大きくなりました。
Their bodies were larger and larger. Formerly carps were larger than them, but now they can play a trick on carps.

以前は岩の苔しかつつけなかったけれどタニシだって食べれるようになりました。
Formerly they could eat only bog moss on the rock, but now can eat pond snails.

最近は素潜りの練習に打ち込んでいます。
In these days they try to dive as their mom.

母親ともシンクロできるようになりました。
They can dive synchronized with their mom.

そろそろ旅立ちです。
It’s about time of departure.

すっかり大きくなり親と見分けがつかなくなってしまいました。羽も以前と違い飛べるようになり、道路を挟んだ隣の敷地の池まで遊びに行けるようにもなったようです。
Their bodies were same as their mom. They can move to next pond across the street.

神田川の桜並木は神田川の改修工事によりできたもので、延長853mもあり、川沿いに82本の桜があります。
撮影時期は2007年4月1日で、この時期には普段静かな川沿いの歩行者道路は賑やかになります。

新江戸川公園は江戸時代中期以来、旗本の邸知となり、その後肥後の細川家の邸地となり、泉水を利用した廻遊式庭園で現在一般に開放して入園できるようになっています。
神田川の桜を見た後に寄るとよいと思います。

これは家のすぐ近くにある桜の大木です。私もこの桜の存在は2年前に知りました。以前は工場があって隠れており、この存在に誰も気づいた人はいなかったと思います。最近はその跡地にまた建物が建ちそうな雰囲気なのでこれが見納めかもしれません。
This cherry blossom was behind the big factory, we could not find this tree before.
Now the big factory was pulled down, and this tree can be seen now. But in the near future a building will be build there, it may be the last chance to see this beautiful cheery blossoms.
